Grace let out a sigh of relief when it was finally six o’clock and she could lock the doors. She hadn’t expected it to be so busy, especially since no one had known she’d be opening the store that day. The steady stream of customers had been good though, because it hadn’t given her the time to think about Quinn and the conversation they’d had in the hospital parking lot the night before.
Like she hadn’t spent a sleepless night thinking about it anyway. She stretched her tired back and let out a big yawn before beginning her closing routine. She couldn’t be certain, but Quinn seemed interested last night. She felt like if she’d tried to kiss her, she wouldn’t have resisted. Grace shook her head. That was just crazy. In reality, Quinn probably would have laughed at her if she’d attempted something like that.
Fifteen minutes later, her work was finished and she took the daily deposit to the bank. Once that was done, she sat in her car and tried to unwind from the day. She pulled her phone out and was disappointed to see Quinn hadn’t called or texted all day. She decided to shoot a text off to her even though she’d no doubt be seeing her soon at the hospital.
On my way to visit your mom. See you soon?
With every passing second that there was no reply, Grace felt her pulse quicken. Was it possible Quinn was mad at her? Grace didn’t think she’d said anything the night before to cause that reaction, but she had kind of left in a hurry after she was the one to suggest they talk. She let out a frustrated sigh and leaned her head back. A full fifteen minutes later, her phone finally vibrated in her hand.
I’m not there. Maybe see you tomorrow.
Grace’s heart dropped. Not a question, but a simple statement. Obviously, Quinn didn’t want to see or talk to her tonight. They rarely went an entire twenty-four hours without at least talking on the phone. She shook her head and chuckled at herself. Quinn probably just needed some time alone to decompress from dealing with Beth. No big deal, right?
So why did she have an overwhelming feeling of dread?
